The Deakin Institute for Health Transformation has joined the Sax Institute’s national member network, opening new opportunities for our researchers to connect, collaborate and strengthen the use of evidence in health policy, programs and services.
This is an exciting step for the Institute and our members. The Sax Institute is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that works to improve health and wellbeing by driving the better use of evidence in policies, programs and services. It works with governments, health organisations, research organisations and experts across Australia to develop practical, evidence-based approaches to public health challenges, with a strong focus on connecting research and decision-making.
By joining the network, the Institute becomes part of a national community working at the interface of research, policy and practice. For our members, this creates more ways to share expertise, build relationships with decision-makers, and contribute to work that helps evidence make a real difference in communities.
As the Sax Institute’s 79th Member, the Institute joins a growing network of organisations committed to strengthening the use of evidence in health policy, programs and services. Its expertise in prevention, health systems, implementation science and policy translation will further strengthen collaboration across the network.
Dr Martin McNamara, CEO of the Sax Institute, said the Deakin Institute for Health Transformation’s commitment to improving health through evidence and collaboration made it a natural fit for the member network.
“The Deakin Institute for Health Transformation has built an outstanding reputation for producing research that helps shape healthier systems and better outcomes for communities.
“We’re delighted to welcome IHT to our member network and look forward to working together to strengthen the use of evidence in policy, programs and services.”
Co-Directors of the Deakin Institute for Health Transformation, Professor Kathryn Backholer, Professor of Public Health Policy and Professor Suzanne Robinson, Chair and Director of Deakin Health Economics, said joining the Sax Institute reflected the Institute’s commitment to working with partners to maximise the impact of research.
“We’re delighted to join the Sax Institute, whose commitment to using evidence to improve policy, programs and services strongly aligns with the Institute’s focus on collaborative research that creates real-world impact. This partnership reflects our shared belief that meaningful change happens when researchers, decision-makers and communities work together to improve health, equity and wellbeing for everyone.”
For Institute members, this membership offers new opportunities to connect with peers across Australia, engage with policymakers and decision-makers, access advice and tools for working with policy agencies, and take part in initiatives that support evidence-informed change.
What this means for Institute members
Sax Institute membership gives all staff of member organisations access to a national network of leaders in public health and health services research. For Institute members, this may include:
- Opportunities to connect with policymakers and decision-makers, helping ensure evidence has a greater impact on health outcomes
- Access to the Sax Forum, which connects members with each other and the Sax Institute to collaborate on areas of shared interest
- The ability to apply for the annual Research Action Awards, which recognise researchers whose work has positively impacted policy or practice
- Access to advice and tools for working with policy agencies, supporting stronger research translation and impact
Together, these opportunities can help Institute members build stronger connections, amplify research impact and contribute to evidence-informed decisions that improve health, equity and wellbeing.
