Dear members,
It was great to see so many of you recently at our All Members’ Day – don’t forget you can access the presentations from the day in our Member’s portal.
In this issue of the newsletter I want to draw your attention to some of the Deakin initiatives currently happening that have relevance to you all.
The University leadership has engaged in a a series of ‘Alfred Deakin Legacy’ conversations led by senior Indigenous leaders and including members of Alfred Deakin’s family. This has resulted in a thoughtful discussion piece outlining Deakin University’s way forward with a resolution to reject the proposition to change the name of the University and jointly commit to truthtelling and elevating the understanding and acknowledgement of the full history of our country. In addition, the esteem title of Alfred Deakin Professor will be changed to Deakin Distinguished Professor. The Tanderrum full piece can be read here.
The Faculty has been doing a lot of work on partnerships to make sure that our many, growing, partnerships are well supported and connected. One element of this work has been to introduce Faculty of Health Major Partnership Leads. The Faculty is trialling Partnership Leads (Custodians) for a small number of our major partnerships to support these larger partners and the strategic ambitions for the partnerships. They are:
Deakin Distinguished Professor Anna Peeters, AM, CF, BSc(Hons), PhD, GAICD
Director, Deakin Institute for Health Transformation Professor of Epidemiology and Equity in Public Health, Deakin University
